Western Canadians placed great hope in Danielle Smith as the premier of Alberta but Dr Makis is issuing a warning. He has been notified that she plans on putting him in jail because he refuses to comply with the Alberta health commission. So much for medical freedom, it seems that Smith is working on both sides of the issue.
She kept all the usual “bad actors” in the civil service when she took control of the Alberta government. First thing you should do is replace those folks with ones that you choose from your side. Civil servants are life-long employees, placed by previous governments, and in Alberta most of those are NDP supporters. Not people who will support a new agenda.
As Dr Makis states, doctors in Canada have been silenced by their provincial colleges of physicians and surgeons. They are not allowed to say certain things, even to their patients. And hidden within Smith’s new proposals is the power given to governments to force citizens to comply with health protocols set up by those colleges. So, while Smith stated that she supported people’s rights to choose which medical treatments they took or refused to take, the reality is that she is setting the stage for the very opposite.
It is well worth keeping this in mind and it seems that Dr Makis is the only voice making this public.
